Heres the details and notes for the STATS indiv report. hope it helps! :D

BTW... credits to ANGE for typing it all out :D

STATRE report (individual) 1500 words

IVs: Satisfaction in life, meaning in life, materialism values, personal growth initiative, gratitude.
Pick satisfaction and two others. 3 variable correlation.

Cover page: title depends on the variable you pick.

Abstract: 120 words, on one page by itself, no indent.

Introduction: Literature review, how you form the hypothesis. Heading is the title of research.

Method: Participants, materials, procedure.

Participants: PCS year 2 students, as part of STATRE course requirements. Age, gender, sample, descriptive stats.

Materials: A questionnaire testing ____ constructs. Describe them. Likert scale, number of questions. Is it created or adapted. Purpose of instrument. Reliability and validity? Acknowledge source of scale using Cronbach’s alpha.

Procedure: Briefing, informed consent, filling up of questionnaire.

Results: First line “A Pearson Product-Moment Correlation” test was run. Regression equation. Significance r, probability. Descriptive statistics. Mean, median, mode. Use table to report descriptive stats, APA style.

Discussion: Is there consistency with previous research? Limitations and recommendations. Ethical considerations. Implications.

Print final report minus questionnaire appendix.

Lit review and discussion are main and lengthiest components.

Cover Page (5 marks): Title, Layout

Abstract (10 marks): Research topic, aim, hypotheses (if any), participants, materials, procedures, findings, implications, conclusion.

Introduction (20 marks): Clear title. Review relevant research. Specify objective & support the significance & hypotheses (if appropriate) of your research. Demonstrate understanding of the subject matter. Demonstrate critical evaluation of the selected empirical studies.

Method (15 marks): Details about participants, materials, procedures are appropriate to the research topic.

Results (15 marks): Clear descriptions of research findings, appropriate statistical analyses. Appropriate use of tables & figures.

Discussion (20 marks): Good and appropriate interpretations of results. Practical &/or theoretical implications. Limitations & recommendations for future studies. Clear conclusion.

Hey guys. Since nobody ever posts here, i shall now. Haha. Thought i'd put up the points for proper presentation etiquette, by Ms. Dinosaur as Tarci calls her. Do take note and all the best for our upcoming presentations!

1. Powerpoint slides are required to have an opening slide, with the module name, and name of the presentation/ project, followed by the full names of all group members in order of who's presenting first, and so on. All groups' powerpoints must be sent to a single laptop and the files pasted onto the desktop, opened in new windows, and prepared for a smooth presentation.

2. Arrange chairs for the total number of group members minus 1, neatly near the 1st presenter/ laptop area. Members not presenting are to be seated in a manner such that everyone is visible to everyone else.

2. Each presenter presents one full question/ component, etc. depending on the question or presentation.

3. 1st presenter begins with a "good morning/ afternoon Mr./ Ms. ... and fellow classmates, I am ... from ... and my group members are ... Today we will be presenting on ...". He/ she has to clearly gesture towards the relevant group member during the introduction, while that member waves or signals to indicate who he/ she is.

4. Presenter has to have good posture, eye contact, clarity of voice, etc. When his/ her part is done, end with a summary and pass your time on to the next presenter with "i will now pass my time to ... who will present ..." Step away and take a seat, while the next presenter begins.

5. After all presenters have done their part, the last presenter concludes the presentation with "we have come to the end of our presentation, thank you" and the group closes their powerpoint and opens the next window for the next group's presentation.

Wow. 5 simple steps and an A for speech comm (: Have fun!

Okay, I'll be reasonable and let you guys know why.

I knew a kid (a senior to you guys) who learned to ride a bike, got a license to ride a bike, and died riding a bike. Freaking shit huh? And guess what? He's only 21 this year. And did I forget to mention, he died 2nd April, pretty funny huh? So 大哥 here is extremely upset and very easily annoyed by anything related with bikes for the time being. Okay, you all have been warned.

PS: Of course the warning doesn't mean that I'll pound anyone or anything for being insensitive but I guess everyone needs some warning to avoid a "bawling-grown up" situation right?

This time i'm posting up the LIFEPS tips Mr Tan gave us long ago. Sorry it's so late, slipped my mind! Thanks for reminding me Kenn (: Do take note if you didn't during lecture.

LIFEPS EXAM ON 26TH FEB 2009 (Is the date correct? Can someone confirm?)

The individual chapters. Just listing the key points:

Chapter 1 - Goals of LIFEPS (Description, explanation and optimisation of development).
Chapter 2 - I didn't note anything!
Chapter 3 - Nothing here too!
Chapter 4 - Teratogens and the effects on foetal development.
Chapter 7 - Piaget's stages of cognitive development, equilibrium and disequilibrium, accomodation, adaption and assimilation.
Chapter 8 - Habituation, classical conditioning.
Chapter 11 - Personality, easy and difficult.
Chapter 13 - Omg nth here either!
Chapter 14 - Bowlby, the implications of earlier attachment on later development.
Chapter 17 - Death and dying (slides on MEL).

There seem to be a few things missing. I think the best is to study all chapters tested. Can someone help me check if those are the correct ones? This was the best i could note. Omg, i'm blogging after ages. Wait, SOMEONE'S blogging after ages. Besides Ben's very interesting post on MRT lines. Singapore's gonna look cool when that's done (: Anyway, thought i'd post up the INTSOC tips Dr. Juliet gave us today. Do take note if you didn't this morning during lecture. CoughKenncough. Lol. Oh and do rmb to collect your INTSOC essays back on the 12th of Feb.

INTSOC EXAM ON 26TH FEB 2009.

The exam will be based on case studies and the sociological perspectives. She encourages us to look at the mark allocation to know how much we got to write per question, i.e. 2 points for 2 marks. We should spend an hour on Section A doing 4 questions, and an hour on Section B doing 2 more.

Terms and what they mean:

List - you may write in point form.
Describe/ explain - provide details.
Distinction - compare and contrast.
Apply - use sociological perspectives to answer.
Evaluate - give your opinions?

Now, the individual chapters. Just listing the key points:

Chapter 1 - Theoretical perspectives and some examples, macro and micro sociology.
Chapter 2 - Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism are impt. Read up the boxes on cultural diversity, textbook pages 274 and 275.
Chapter 3 - Socialisation into gender, agents of socialisation and description of the impact. Explain resocialisation.
Chapter 4 - Status inconsistency, face-saving behaviour, how macro and micro sociological analysis help us to understand social life and human behaviour, the Saints and Roughnecks and explain the social construction of reality.
Chapter 6 - Control theory, functionalist perspective of deviance, apply the conflict perspective of deviance and critic of the medicalisation of deviance.
Chapter 8 - Compare how Karl Marx and Max Weber analyse social class and describe the sociological models of social class.
Chapter 9 - Debate the significance of race for the African Americans.
Chapter 10 - Compare and contrast the functionalist and conflict perspective on aging. For the functionalist perspective, focus on why retirement is beneficial and theories which stress how individuals adjust positively. For the conflict perspective, focus on power, competition, disequilibirum and change.
Chapter 13 - Describe and apply key concepts in the funtionalist, conflict and symbolic interactionist perspective of education. For religion, refer to the announcement posted on 27th Oct 2008, first and second paragraphs.
Chapter 15 - Describe how propaganda influences people through the mass media.

Hey people, I asked Ms Heidi some questions relating to the portfolio assignment and i thought it might helpful for some of you. So here goes:

I have 2 questions to ask you with regards to the portfolio assignment. Firstly, within the assignment description, it is stated that a copy of the material selected is needed. However, if im doing on a movie and a book, how do i produce a copy of the materials? Secondly, where do we submit the portfolio to in mel? This is because there isn't any folder for the submission of the portfolio.

If its a movie, you need to give me the clip (either youtube or...). If you have a url, I need to view it from there. If its a book, you need to submit relevant pages of it.
The thing is, I need to read / watch the material before I can determine the relevance to the concept. You know what I mean?

For submission, prepare hard copies for submission in class on Mon.

Firstly, according to the assignment guidelines, chapter 5 is under social thinking, however, according to the textbook, it is under social influences. So what i would like to know is which category does it fall under? Next, i would like to find out if each entry can comprise of 2 chapters combined together? Lastly, do we have to create a portfolio or do we just hand the assignment up to mel in a word document? Sorry for all the questions!!!

(1) It can be a concept (e.g. self-concept) or a theory or a phenomenon (e.g. hindsight bias). It can be ANY of these from chapters in the text.
(2) For this part, please explain the concept in your own words. Having read it up in the text / other resources, describe the concept based on your personal understanding of it.
Here, focus on the concept (dont bring in the material yet!)
(3) For this part, you need to examine / analysis the material. For example, you have selected a comic strip. Now, to answer this part, you need to analysis how the comic strip is an illustration of the
concept (e.g. the characters' dialogue? the characters' dressing? the underlying message? the setting? etc)

Netball Tournament

Today was a tiring day for some of our classmates, Na'iimah, Jian Yang, Angelin, Joanne, Yu Mei, Shaiz and Julia.

They participated in the Netball Tournament held from 5 pm to 9 pm today. The team suffered injustice, their opponents playing foul and the impartial referee. Although it was a tough battle, the team played on.

In lieu with the HMS Day held tomorrow, the team decided to turn over, i.e, backing out from the competition.

Special thanks to Benjamin, Ezekiel, Zi Yang and the 'team manager' Kenn for staying back to support the team. Thank you all for your participation and support!!

I told u all that i will email Mr Glen asking him whether we can be excuse from going down to the community partner and he said that it is ok but we shd at least make an effort to go down. Hence, i think that we shd at least visit abt 4 community partners. The details of what he said has alrdy been emailed to ur np emails so pls go and read.

Hey ppl, im so sorry but Mr Glen said that he cant extend the deadline cos the actual deadline for this grp proj is supposed to be today but due to feedback from last year 1st year students, he extended the deadline to next week. Hence, he can't extend the deadline any further.
However, i have email Mr Glen asking whether if it was excusable if we were to gather the information needed from the websites and not go down for a visit. So im currently waiting for his reply. I will keep u guys posted. Ciao :)

Yup, i absolutely agree with all that's being said. As the saying goes: A thought for others goes a long way. Hence, i feel that people should be more considerate of others and try to think more about others. The library is a place to study and that's what im there for- to study. So please keep the noise level down! Thanks :)

I can't help but agree with the previous post... Though i only studied once in there, i feel that we should be more considerate towards our classmates. I would like to add on to the previous post, the playing of music through the laptop speakers should only be audible to the user to avoid distracting our fellow classmates.

This notice will take effect on the starting week of the new school term.

Most of you will know by now that we have been booking the 10-seater room every wednesdays frm 1pm onwards for study purposes.
The purpose of booking a room --> a conducive environment for fellow classmates who wants to study. Hence there should be no distractions or whatsoever caused.

1A01 students are welcomed to join in the study sessions at the library every wednesdays.
Students caught playing games in the study sessions will be asked to leave the room without any form of hesitation by the other students. so PLEASE co-operate with one another and help make the study sessions more effective and better(:

It has come to our attention that some of you might be using the room for gaming purposes.
We kindly seek your attention in not using the room for gaming as it might affect those who are trying to concentrate on their studies. Besides this, there is a library notice on the doors of every room that there should be no public gaming in the rooms. So try to stick to the notice okays..(as if you guys will follow to what the rules on the notice says. haha)

In case some of you guys have questions, here are some you may wish to take a look at...

FAQ:
1. What if there's nothing to study on since Common Test is over?
-Work on your assignments or projects.

2. Oh what if I've already completed my assignments/projects?
-It would be best if you can let your other fellow classmates use the study room since you have completed the things you have to do (as we have limited space in the room), or perhaps revise on the ppt slides/notes which the lecturers have given, or grab a book.

3. I really want to play computer games. Just one game. Are there any alternative solutions I may consider?
-sure. you can grab an individual study desk outside the study rooms which is always available to suit your needs. You have to understand there is limited space available in the room because it is quite small. If you want to game, please leave so that there will be extra spaces available for other classmates to study in the room. Regardless of how many games you play, still you have to spare a consideration for other classmates too. We suggest that you book another room for yourself if you wish to game. Thanks ! :DD

4. But since our class is in the study room,We must be united and stay in the same room right?
-well, yes we must be united as a class. So why don't you put aside your game and join us to study? Then we will be united as a class by studying together ^^

Hello Everyone... me again...

just to update you on some of the important changes in the blog.

The "assignment tracking" section has been removed due to the incapability to have the live countdown. This section is now located at the bottom right hand corner of the blog.

As the "assignment tracking" section is moved, the birthdays of the peeps of the class has also changed. Click on the 'Birthdays" button to access that.

The Blog is now officially opened. Most of the features ready. However, improvements in the tagboard and the skin is still ongoing. Estimated date of completion will be on 31 May 2008.

Also please let me know if there is any problems you encounter, bugs/glitches, or other comments to make the blog better. Do so via MSN, SMS, or e-mail me at leefm@singnet.com.sg.
